Social Media Web Traffic Dips in February

Last week Compete.com released their monthly normalized statistics report for February 2010, and the graphs below show that all of the big three social media services experienced adrop in traffic after ticking upward in January.

Last month, the number of unique visitors to Twitter.com decreased by nearly 10% to 21.3M, while overall traffic to the site showed a smaller decrease (-5%) to 144M visits.

Even mighty Facebook showed a month-over-month decrease (-4.32%)  in unique visitors, though it was smaller than Twitter’s losses. Total visits to Facebook.com declined by 2.5%.

Unique visitors to LinkedIn.com also declined (-8.3%) and total visits were down by about the same percentage (-2.51%) as Facebook.

Note that none of these statistics reflect traffic to the services from mobile devices or third-party applications.
