Are you in the job hunt?
Did/do you want to work in some aspect of marketing or communications?
Are you interested in the application of social media concepts and tools to solve business problems and generate revenue?
Would you like to network with some of the smartest and best-connected marketing minds in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area?
Then you REALLY should be attending the monthly meetings (and occasional tweetups) of the Social Media Club of Dallas (hereafter referred to as SMC Dallas).
Social Media Club is a national organization whose mission is to “to connect media makers from around the world to advance media literacy, promote industry standards, encourage ethical behaviour and share the lessons they have learned.”
The Dallas chapter expands upon those goals to focus on social media practitioners in corporate, agency, and PR roles. The group is primarily interested in how medium to large corporations are leveraging social media to reach, engage, and drive revenue. Additionally, they are examining how companies innovate, measure, and improve upon social media tactics.
SMC Dallas is led by Mike D. Merrill, Chief Bacon Maker and Marketing Strategist at his own firm, Bacon Marketing, and his capable leadership team.
In the last half-year, roughly coincident with my association with the group, these are just a few of the outstanding speakers that have appeared at SMC Dallas events:
- Chris Brogan, President of New Marketing Labs, co-author of Trust Agents and author of Social Media 101
- Jason Falls, Principal of Social Media Explorer
- Shama Hyder, President of the Dallas-based Marketing Zen Group, and newly-published author of The Zen of Marketing
- John Jantsch, author of Duct Tape Marketing and The Referral Engine (who was the club’s guest last night)
Coming up in the next couple of months are Tim Hayden, Chief Strategy Officer of Blue Clover (May 20) and Eric Qualman, author of Socialnomics: How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live and Do Business (June 17). More good times are ahead, for sure.
At SMC Dallas events, not only do you get to learn from these thought leaders, but there are also ample opportunities to network with the speakers and other attendees both before and after the formal presentations. It’s a very social club, as you would expect.
I could also (and really should) write a post or even an essay about all of the intelligent, creative, fascinating and supportive local people that I’ve met through my association with SMC Dallas. But that’s for another time.
For right now, just hear this.
The Social Media Club of Dallas is doing great things for the local business community, and anyone interested in what the group has to offer – and it is quite substantive – should check it out at one of the upcoming events.
If you have any questions, contact any member of the SMC Dallas leadership team. They stand ready and willing to help.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
You can connect with the Social Media Club of Dallas on the web, via Twitter (the group’s hashtag is #smcdallas), or Facebook.

Thanks for putting this up, it was very helpful and showed me a ton
Hey There, this weblog seems funny and narrow when I open it using Opera. Nonetheless, it seems to be fine in IE. Does anyone else observe this?
Hey David! Thanks for the awesome blog post about SMC! I’m glad you are getting so much out of the club. We are all working hard to bring top talent to Dallas! Our events are a wonderful networking opportunity and I hope to see you at our next event on May 20!
